Sarah Korhonen provides evaluation services for several
community partners at the Egan Center, including Human Resources
Development Institute, Inc. (HRDI), Centers for New Horizons,
Bethel New Life, Inc., and the Chicago Coalition for Site
Administered Childcare Programs (CCSACCP) She has led program
evaluations of HRDI’s Day Reporting Center, an alternative
pre-trial detention program for males in need of substance abuse
treatment under the jurisdiction of the Cook County Sheriff’s
Department and Chicago Girls, a residential substance abuse
program for adolescent girls in Chicago. She also headed an
evaluation of CCSACCP’s Substitute Teaching Program which
brought substitute teachers into the field of childcare to give
full-time teachers access to training and professional
development opportunities.
She completed her Master of Arts degree in Sociology with
distinction at DePaul University in June of 2002. Her specific
areas of interest involve research and policy issues around
youth, families, and communities. Originally from Grand Rapids,
Michigan, Sarah moved to Chicagoland in 1992. She attended North
Central College in Naperville, Illinois where she received her
Bachelor of Arts degree in Writing with a minor in Sociology.
Sarah is currently a doctoral candidate in the Sociology
Department at Loyola University Chicago. |

Ms. Gulasingam is an Instructor and a Web Developer at the Egan
Urban Center where she currently manages and teaches in the
Faculty and Community Research Center Laboratory, and develops
and maintains websites and technology projects. She is an
experienced instructor who has designed technology and web-based
training and internship programs, and developed curriculum and
teaching programs for youth organizations and schools. As part
of a National Science Foundation research project, she is a
liaison to a community-based organization in West Humboldt Park,
where she maintains and assists their use of Geographic
Information Systems (GIS) mapping software and data.
She earned her MS in E-Commerce Technology and GIS Certification
from DePaul University, and her B.Sc. in Math, Physics and
Electronics from Bangalore University, India. She has pursued
continuing education in such diverse topics as GIS, business
management, accounting and social work. Her expertise includes
software analysis, design, development and implementation of
client-server, web-based and mobile applications; teaching and
training technology related programs; GIS and data mining. |

Ms. Levendusky has a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from the
University of Wisconsin-Madison and more than 10 years'
experience in news writing, reporting and editing, primarily for
national and local news wire services in Chicago. In addition to
her duties as assistant to the executive director, Linda serves
as editor for EUC publications. |

Charlotte Phillips is the event coordinator at the Egan Urban
Center and is currently involved in the Black/Latino initiative.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in communication from
DePaul University, and is currently working towards her graduate
degree in corporate/organizational communication. |

Bianca Suárez is a
research intern and she is currently involved with the dropping
knowledge and Black/Latino initiative. Her research focuses on
urban education, critical literacy, race and ethnicity, Pan-Africanism
and Afro-Latino communities. She received her bachelor’s degree
in Political Science and Black Work Studies from Loyola
University Chicago. She is currently working toward her master’s
degree in the Social and Cultural Foundations of Education
Policy Studies. |

Petta-Gay is a graduate intern for the Egan Urban Center,
currently working on the CPS Choice Project. She is pursuing her
Master's Degree in Sociology at DePaul University. Petta-Gay
studied as an undergraduate at the University of Florida,
earning a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology with a minor in
Education. |
